Should you use Ubot flat slab for residential houses?

Building a house with Ubot flat slabs has no longer been an unfamiliar concept in the construction industry in recent years. However, for many homeowners, Ubot flat slab is still something very new, making them wonder whether they should apply this new technology to their homes. What is Ubot slab?

Ubot is a formwork system made from recycled polypropylene used in slab and raft foundation structures. Ubot has a special structure consisting of four conical support legs and one central conical leg, together with connecting bars that create a system of perpendicular I-shaped beams between the upper and lower layers of the concrete slab.

Placing Ubot boxes within the slab removes non-load-bearing concrete, reducing slab weight and the amount of concrete and reinforcement required, while allowing the slab to achieve spans of up to 20 m and creating open and aesthetically pleasing spaces within the building.

So, should you use Ubot flat slab for residential houses?

Optimize slab structure – economic efficiency

Placing Ubot boxes in the non-load-bearing concrete zone significantly reduces the amount of concrete required for the building. This results in lower slab weight and reduced loads transferred to the slab and foundations.

The quantities of concrete, reinforcement, and formwork are all reduced compared with conventional reinforced concrete slabs (30–40% less formwork and 20–30% less reinforcement). Meanwhile, the additional use of materials such as Ubot slabs and accessories does not significantly increase the overall cost, at approximately VND 5.5 million/m² of slab.

Even for houses with spans of less than 6 m, the construction cost of Ubot slabs is not significantly higher than that of conventional slabs, while offering greater functional benefits, such as allowing walls to be built in any desired position, providing a flat slab surface, and allowing the functional layout to be changed in the future. In particular, for families with young children, children's running and playing will not significantly affect the floor below because Ubot slabs also provide sound and thermal insulation.

Furthermore, the expected construction time for lightweight Ubot slabs is approximately 4–5 days shorter than that of conventional reinforced concrete slabs. This helps homeowners significantly reduce labor costs and allows their homes to be completed faster.

The construction of UBOT flat slabs requires very little scaffolding and formwork, significantly reducing waste released into the environment. In particular, the Ubot flat slab construction process is similar to that of conventional slabs, so it can be easily carried out by various construction contractors.
