Ubot Flat Slab or the Ubot void-forming solution for beamless concrete slabs is a name that is no longer unfamiliar to professionals in the construction industry in Vietnam and internationally. Introduced from Europe in 2012 by LPC, Ubot Flat Slab has established its leading position in voided slab and beamless flat slab technology, offering outstanding structural and architectural advantages.
Many commercial and service centers as well as industrial facilities have chosen Ubot Flat Slab not only to create open and spacious architectural layouts and maximize usable floor area, but also for its high load-bearing capacity. Why is this the case? Let’s explore the following article with LPC.
What Is Ubot Flat Slab?
Ubot Flat Slab is a two-way lightweight monolithic slab solution that uses Ubot void formers to create voids within the slab. The boxes are arranged in parallel to form interconnected I-shaped beam grids in two perpendicular directions. The structural design of Ubot Flat Slab is calculated in accordance with European Eurocode standards and Vietnamese technical regulations, while also taking into account the specific regional conditions of each project.
Ubot Flat Slab can achieve spans of up to 20 m, depending on the intended use of each project, while also providing high load-bearing capacity. Key advantages of Ubot Flat Slab include:

- Reduce total slab construction costs by 5% to 15% compared with conventional slabs
- Reduce seismic loads, while providing effective sound and thermal insulation
- Reduce the amount of reinforcement and formwork required for the slab

In addition, following years of improvements in Vietnam, Ubot can be applied to various types of projects, including commercial and service buildings; high-rise apartment buildings; townhouses; industrial facilities, hospitals, and schools; parking facilities; and other civil construction projects.
Load-Bearing Advantages of Ubot Flat Slab
To ensure compliance before products are released, Ubot Flat Slab construction is subject to strict quality assurance. All Ubot products released by LPC undergo load-bearing tests conducted by the Institute for Building Science and Technology (IBST).
Accordingly, Ubot void formers are designed to allow safe movement across their surfaces in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The base of the box is the safest area, while the center is the weakest; therefore, movement across this area should be minimized during construction. On average, a Ubot void former can withstand a load of (70+30)=100 kg over a shoe-tip contact area of 10x12 cm.
Therefore, for conventional projects with relatively moderate load requirements, Ubot void formers are designed to withstand construction loads during installation, assembly, and movement across the slab.
For large industrial facility projects with heavy operating machinery and high loads, investors can still use Ubot Flat Slab with spans of less than 20 m. This optimizes usable floor area while ensuring the structural integrity of the project.
Ubot Flat Slab Construction Experience
With its simple construction process and ability to accelerate project schedules, many general contractors have also chosen beamless flat slabs for their projects. However, not every contractor follows the design requirements and manufacturer's instructions correctly. This can result in defects after slab construction, requiring investors to incur additional costs for remediation.
For these reasons, LPC recommends that investors and customers choose a reputable design and material-solution provider with extensive experience in transferring solutions and implementing projects of various types and scales.
