Using green materials – Ubot flat slabs – to build environmentally friendly “smart cities” is one of the development trends chosen by many businesses.

“Why should green construction materials be used?”, “What are the benefits of using Ubot flat slabs?” are certainly questions many people may have. Some may even wonder whether planting more trees around a building is not enough. To answer these questions, let’s first find out “What is considered a green construction material?”.
1. What are green construction materials?
According to experts, green construction materials are defined as materials capable of reducing negative impacts on the environment. In other words, these materials must ensure safety throughout the life cycle of a building, including extraction, transportation, construction, use, and eventual demolition.
To be recognized as a green construction material such as Ubot flat slabs, the material must meet the following conditions:
- ✅ Non-toxic: The first criterion is based on the level of environmental pollution generated during production. The production process is optimized to minimize industrial waste.
- ✅ Resource-efficient: Saves natural resources (such as clay) and energy during extraction, transportation, and construction.
- ✅ Reduced environmental pollution: Does not cause harm to the surrounding environment (soil, water, and air).
- ✅ Long service life: Provides better quality and durability than conventional materials.
- ✅ Recyclable: Highly recyclable and environmentally friendly.

Thus, it is easy to see that “green” here does not simply mean a building with many trees. The project itself needs to be green from the materials used, in order to protect the living environment of people in the future.
2. What benefits do green buildings provide for the environment?
According to statistics, conventional construction projects consume 40% of energy resources, 25% of timber, and 17% of water, while emitting up to 55% of CFCs, 33% of CO2, and more than 40% of solid waste.
Buildings using green materials (such as Ubot flat slabs) can save 3/4 of electricity consumption and reduce electricity consumption per m² by 25%. In the United States, green buildings reduce CO2 emissions by more than 30% and reduce electricity and water consumption by 1/4.
Therefore, green construction has become an inevitable trend to ensure sustainable development. To achieve this, green materials need to be used.

3. Ubot flat slabs – A new solution for green buildings
In Vietnam, Ubot flat slabs (U-boot beton) are currently among the most widely used green building materials. This technology was transferred by LPC (Lam Pham Construction) and meets quality standards while being environmentally friendly.
a. Structure of Ubot flat slabs
Originating from Italy (Daliform Group), Ubot slabs are made from recycled Polypropylene. This type of plastic does not contain toxic substances or emit harmful substances. The Ubot boxes are connected using linking bars to create beamless flat slabs, with a basic size of 52x52cm and a flexible height (10cm - 28cm).

Each Ubot box consists of 5 conical legs, creating a perpendicular I-beam system between the two concrete slab layers. This design helps reduce slab weight and limit the number of columns, thereby reducing the amount of concrete and steel consumed.
b. Key features of Ubot flat slabs
- ✅ Reduced impact on soil: Projects using Ubot slabs do not require foundations to be excavated as deeply as conventional concrete slabs.
- ✅ Simple construction: The optimized structure is easy to transport and manually assemble using human labor, without the need for complex machinery, helping reduce CO2 emissions and the greenhouse effect.
- ✅ Sound and thermal insulation: The hollow structure helps effectively prevent noise pollution.
With outstanding advantages in environmental protection and economic efficiency, Ubot flat slab technology is the optimal solution for the sustainable construction industry of the future.
