Lightweight construction materials – an optimal solution for Vietnam’s construction industry
The use of lightweight construction materials that are environmentally friendly is becoming a strategic direction for Vietnam’s entire construction industry. Ubot beamless flat slabs are among the modern construction materials that promise to completely replace traditional reinforced concrete and open up new opportunities for green buildings in the future.
1. Environmental issues and the emergence of lightweight construction materials
The negative environmental impacts of construction waste remain a challenging issue for the entire industry. In Hanoi, thousands of construction projects generate large amounts of waste, noise pollution, and dust, seriously affecting human health and the urban landscape. The issue is how to develop new construction solutions to address this situation.
The introduction of lightweight construction materials that help save costs and protect the environment is a strategic solution. These materials are often made from recycled materials and require less energy to produce. Typical examples include Ubot, lightweight concrete blocks, vinyl plastic bricks, and more.
2. Comparison between traditional construction materials and lightweight construction materials
Lightweight materials can save up to 20% of total construction costs compared to traditional materials. They also help reduce construction time and the number of workers required thanks to their flexibility and ease of transportation.
Lightweight materials are generally green materials that are safe for human health. In contrast, traditional materials extracted from natural resources can have negative long-term impacts on ecosystems.
3. Using Ubot beamless flat slabs in construction projects in Vietnam
a. What are Ubot beamless flat slabs?
Ubot is a lightweight construction material made from recycled Polypropylene, used to design beamless flat slabs with large spans. The product was invented by the Daliform Group (Italy) and has been transferred to Vietnam by Lam Pham Construction (LPC) since 2012.

b. Outstanding advantages
- ✅ Structural optimization: Ability to achieve spans of up to 20 m, creating open spaces and enhancing aesthetics.
- ✅ Reduced weight: Reduces slab weight by 10%–30% compared to traditional concrete slabs.
- ✅ Good sound and thermal insulation.
- ✅ Economic efficiency: Saves 10%–15% of total costs by reducing the amount of concrete, reinforcement, formwork, and labor required.
- ✅ Environmental protection: Uses recycled plastic and reduces construction waste.
c. Typical projects
Currently, Ubot slabs have been applied in more than 500 projects nationwide. Some typical projects include Vincostone Thach That Apartment Building, Happy Smile School, Imperia Sky Garden, Cat Tuong Eco Social Housing, Eco Home Phuc Loi, and more.

Along with the development of science and technology, lightweight construction materials and green construction solutions are expected to become a strategic direction that delivers sustainable value to the construction industry in the future.
