Ubot hollow box slab – an old concept with new improvements

Construction projects using Ubot hollow box slabs are no longer an unfamiliar concept in the construction flooring market in recent years. This Italian hollow box slab technology was introduced to Vietnam more than 10 years ago and has been increasingly adopted by architects and homeowners because of its many outstanding advantages.

The growing number of projects using Ubot hollow box slabs has demonstrated the effectiveness and sustainability of this solution. LPC is pleased to introduce a slab technology solution transferred from Italy’s Daliform Group, which we distribute in Vietnam.

What is a Ubot hollow box slab?

A Ubot hollow box slab uses recycled polypropylene formwork in slab and raft foundation structures. Ubot has a special structure consisting of 4 supporting legs and 1 central conical leg, together with connecting bars that create a system of perpendicular I-shaped beams between the upper and lower layers of the concrete slab.

Structure of the Ubot hollow box slab

The Ubot slab has been carefully researched to ensure structural integrity, strength, and load-bearing capacity, with the following components:

Ubot box: 52×52 cm in size, with the height adjustable according to each project. The box has 4 conical legs and 1 central leg, with raised supports on the surface to protect the reinforcement. Ubot boxes are available in single and double types, connected to each other using specialized connecting bars in two perpendicular directions.
Slab reinforcement: Consists of bottom reinforcement and a system of reinforcing bars between the gaps of the Ubot boxes. Depending on the characteristics of each project, the reinforcing system is arranged accordingly.

Lightweight slab with large spans: The slab can achieve spans of up to 20 m, making it easier for designers to arrange and divide rooms

Improved sound and thermal insulation: The hollow slab provides good sound and thermal insulation.
Flexibility in changing the position of partition walls. (Meeting the needs of individual families to change partition wall and interior layouts.)

Applications of Ubot hollow box slabs in construction projects

With a solid foundation of experience inherited from and direct training by experts from Daliform Group (Italy), LPC has now implemented the Ubot hollow box slab solution in more than 600 projects.

A notable example is the Ecohome Phuc Loi project, which received the Transformational Business Awards 2018, an annual award selected by the renowned Financial Times and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The project with the largest application of Ubot lightweight flat slabs is Imperia Sky Garden apartment building in Hanoi, with a total Ubot application area of up to 262,500 m2.
