“Only when chlorophyll is exposed to light can photosynthesis take place, helping leaves carry their green color and spread fresh air.” Capital House is honored to receive the Transformational Business Award.

With a strong belief in the goodness hidden deep within every individual, Capital House, together with LPC, is quietly writing the story of Creating a Green Life to spread sustainable values to the community.

Last June, the name Capital House was announced on a special stage in the misty land of England, at the Transformational Business Awards 2018 ceremony. The award honored Capital House in the Green Building category for its important contributions to positive change and sustainable environmental development, while creating a green life for the community.

After more than a decade of quietly and steadfastly pursuing its green journey, Capital House has placed Vietnam on the world green building map as its projects use Ubot flat slabs – environmentally friendly construction materials.

To achieve this milestone, Capital House had to compete with projects from hundreds of major businesses and corporations around the world. The submissions were reviewed and voted on by a judging panel consisting of 8 leaders and experts from prestigious organizations around the world, such as the Financial Times, IFC, Climate Group, Centre for Global Development, University of California, San Diego…

Technical consulting for the Transformational Business Awards 2018 was provided by the globally reputable consulting and auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

In the joint statement read at the awards ceremony and Gala Dinner on June 6, the members of the judging panel stated: “Capital House has successfully applied environmental criteria to the low-income housing segment, while these criteria are normally reserved only for luxury buildings.”

Joining the green journey with “Capital House”, Lam Pham Construction Co., Ltd. provides UBOT beamless flat slabs, a product made from recycled Polypropylene plastic, patented by the world-renowned Daliform Group – Italy, with the solution transferred and widely developed by Lam Pham Construction (LPC).

Ubot flat slab products are certified and meet the stringent requirements of the construction industry, achieving green certification and being environmentally friendly.

In a recent interview, Capital House was honored at the Transformational Business Awards in a very special category, Green Building. What does this mean to Capital House?

Mr. Do Duc Dat stated: The Transformational Business Awards is an annual award organized and voted on by the prestigious Financial Times magazine and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). After competing with hundreds of projects, Capital House was honored in the Green Building category, and it was an even greater honor that Capital House became the first Vietnamese enterprise to receive this prestigious award.

This has great significance and encourages us on our journey to develop green buildings in particular and the Green Building program that we are pursuing together with the Vietnam Real Estate Association in general. At the same time, it also demonstrates that Vietnam’s efforts have been recognized by the international community.

Capital House

Interviewer: Recently, we have actively promoted the message of “green buildings”, but we must frankly acknowledge that consumers still have very limited understanding of this concept. Most people still think green buildings are projects with lots of trees and flower gardens…

Meanwhile, a project meeting green building standards must meet very stringent standards in construction, design, energy efficiency…. And for users to understand this, years of experience are needed, while for a real estate business, the top priority is to attract customers as quickly as possible from the moment sales begin.

Why did Capital House choose such a difficult path, sir?

Mr. Do Duc Dat: The world is witnessing the consequences of climate change, and Vietnam is also one of the countries heavily affected by it. The environment is polluted, natural resources are gradually being depleted, and people's health is threatened…

This does not affect just one person but all of us, as we share the same atmosphere. To combat climate change, green buildings have become an inevitable development trend worldwide. Countries near Vietnam such as Singapore and Malaysia have actively developed green buildings for a long time and achieved many accomplishments.

Singapore, for example, has a strategic vision of having 80% of its buildings meet Green Mark standards by 2030, including both existing and newly built buildings, while it is currently at 45%. Meanwhile, all new buildings in Singapore must achieve Green Mark certification at the Platinum level – the highest level of this rating system.

Capital House

Capital House recognized this trend. For more than a decade, from the very beginning of its establishment, we have followed the pioneering philosophy of “Creating a Green Life”. This is our main inspiration, our business motto, and the path we pursue.

As pioneers, we spend more time communicating messages and knowledge to consumers, and we put more effort into everything from design consultancy to selecting construction materials, while the cost may also be somewhat higher than that of conventional buildings. But we see sustainability and long-term value in this.

Capital House is not simply building one or two projects to generate profits and then stopping. We have, are, and will continue to develop green building-standard projects and build the Capital House brand around its green philosophy. Therefore, I believe that over time, together with the positive effects that green buildings bring, consumers will gradually understand and embrace what we have been persistently building.

Interviewer: Quite a few businesses use the “green” label to enhance their products, while Capital House has quietly greened residential buildings in the mass-market segment, as in the story of Ecohome. Why is that, sir?

Ecohome

Mr. Do Duc Dat: Why must green buildings necessarily be high-end buildings? Singapore's social housing has embraced green building standards. And I think everyone deserves to benefit from this, just as everyone deserves to enjoy the naturally clean environment that has been damaged by climate change, industrialization, and other factors.

For low-income people, it is even more important for them to live in green apartments and green buildings to help reduce electricity and water costs…. Saving a certain amount of money each month has a significant impact on their lives. At the same time, this is the largest customer group and the group that consumes the most resources (electricity, water…).

With our experience, we can completely develop green buildings for affordable housing. Capital House also focuses its main product segment on mass-market housing.

Affordable yet green – to achieve this, we only need to invest more effort in research, careful calculations, and selecting appropriate materials, while making every effort to prevent costs from increasing significantly.

In the foreword to the book The Infinite in the Palm of Your Hand, Matthieu Ricard wrote: “How should we live our lives? How should we live in society? What can we know? Certainly, these are three questions that reflect our main concerns. Ideally, our way of life should lead us to a sense of fulfillment, inspire creativity every minute, and leave us without regret at the end of life; life in society together with others should create a sense of responsibility for all humanity.”

And I think that for a business to grow and remain sustainable, it needs not only economic strength but also to demonstrate social responsibility and responsibility toward the community through each of its projects.

Capital House

Interviewer: Thank you, sir!
